International medical centres in China: the names government lists use and what their pages give

Published

The Beijing government's English list uses several different names for hospital international units, and "international medical centre" is only one of them. This page shows those names, then sets out what the Beijing and Shanghai government pages give for four units that carry "International Medical Center" in the name or address. It does not rate, compare or recommend any hospital.

Names used on Beijing's list

The Beijing Municipal People's Government's English Medical Guide for Foreigners lists major medical institutions providing full-process foreign language services. The names it gives for the international units include these variants:

  • International Medical Services (IMS). Used for Peking Union Medical College Hospital, for Peking University International Hospital, and, as International Medical Service (IMS), for Peking University Third Hospital.
  • International Department. Used for China-Japan Friendship Hospital.
  • International Medical Center. Used for Beijing Friendship Hospital and for Beijing Tiantan Hospital.
  • International Medical Department (IMD). Used for Guang'anmen Hospital, Fuwai Hospital and Xuanwu Hospital Capital Medical University. Beijing Chao-yang Hospital of Capital Medical University and Beijing DCN Orthopedic Hospital use International Medical Department without the abbreviation.
  • Department of International Medical Services. Used for Peking University People's Hospital and for Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital.
  • VIP Clinic & International Medical Service Department. Used for Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, Capital Medical University.

The same list also names Beijing United Family Hospital, Sanfine International Hospital and the General Administration of Customs (Beijing) International Travel Health Care Center without any of these unit labels.
